I gave Jopaz three options for lunch. A vegan cafe I hadn't been to before, a unique vegetarian cafe I visited in 2022 and loved, and another one. When I mentioned burritos, her mind was already made up. We decided to go to Crazy Burrito for lunch at 12, keeping in mind the closing time (2:30 pm).

Crazy Burrito (or Crazy B) is a Mexican-style restaurant in Kobe. It’s owned by a Japanese woman, who just celebrated Crazy B’s fifth anniversary in June 2024.

Crazy B is an easy 8-minute walk from Sannomiya station. The place is quite small inside, with a bar seating area and one table. The focus is on their takeaway service and most people choose this option.

You can order online or by phone, wait outside, and receive your order through their dedicated pick-up window. Both pick-up and delivery are available through Uber Eats.

It’s clear that one of the owner's goals is to be inclusive. Different flags adorn the walls, as well as a world map where you can place a sticker on your home country.

They employ staff who speak English, Spanish, Korean, and the Kansai dialect (for you Osakans out there). Crazy B wants to cater to everyone - vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, gluten-free, low fat and meat eaters.

Crazy B’s menu is available in both Japanese and English.

Let’s take a look at what Crazy B offers for vegetarians/vegans:

  • Vegetarian burrito
  • Vegetarian spicy burrito
  • Vegetarian spicy sour cream burrito
  • Vegetarian tai spicy sour burrito (I tried this, tbh it was pretty good)
  • Vegan burrito
  • Vegan taco rice
  • Vegan keema curry taco rice
  • Vegan quesadilla

Additionally, I really appreciated the option of removing any ingredients if you aren’t a fan of them. I’m sorry but coriander is awful.

Crazy Burrito is located in Kobe, with three different branches. We visited the main branch in Sannomiya (Kobe city) so I can’t speak for the others.

Overall, the experience was pleasant and we enjoyed the burritos. The staff were kind and friendly too.

I will say though, temper your expectations as the meals aren't fancy, high-quality Mexican food. It’s more like fast food quality, but it was worth stopping by because we were already in Kobe. Plus - so many veggie options!

Crazy B has a website and Instagram where you can check out various photos of their meals and prices.

If you’re keen to try a Japanese take on Mexican food, stop by Crazy Burrito!

Until next time,
