ショーグンバーガー

By far, the best vegan burger I’ve ever eaten. I’m addicted.

Oh, Kanazawa, where do I begin?

Kanazawa is such a beautiful, unique city and it holds a special place in my heart.

I’d been dreaming about visiting Kanazawa (in Ishikawa Prefecture) since 2020. I even put Ishikawa as one of my work placement preferences.

In late December 2023, I made that dream holiday come true with Jopaz.

We arrived in Kanazawa late. Weary and starving, we stumbled upon Shogun Burger, in the Cross Gate building (2nd floor) next to Kanazawa Station.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw they had a plant-based burger option on the menu! We got in just in time too, right before the last order.

Shogun Burger isn’t strictly veggie. They mostly cater to meat-eaters, but having one mouth-watering vegan cheeseburger on the menu is something I need to tell people about.

They serve sides like chips (fries), onion rings, and salads. In-store, they also have this awesome Okinawan hot sauce - ハイサイソース (Haisai sauce). It’s vegan and oh-so tasty!

Another cool thing about Shogun Burger is that you can order and customise your meal from a giant touchscreen machine.

So if you’re an introvert like me, or just don’t want human interaction—this is perfect.

Want to avoid the crowds? I feel you. Takeaway is also available.

Planning on being somewhere else? You’re in luck because Shogun Burger has restaurants all over Tokyo (Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Akihabara, Yokohama... I could go on for ages).

There are even stores in Gunma, Osaka, and Toyama. Shogun Burger is really thriving! A new store in Okinawa is on the horizon too.

Each store has its own distinct style which makes for a chill vibe.

Side note: sometimes the plant-based burger sells out on busy days.

Unfortunately, I experienced this last time I went to Shogun Burger in Akihabara. So disappointing after I was looking forward to that burger all day!

Keen to see Shogun’s offerings? They have a website, and you can find them on Instagram or X (formerly Twitter).

Shogun Burger even has its own app, where you can score some coupons.

To wrap up, I urge you to consider a trip to Kanazawa City or even Ishikawa Prefecture.

The Noto Peninsula earthquake has had a devastating effect on the community in Kanazawa and the surrounding areas, most notably Wajima and Suzu. They are still suffering from the damage and trying to rebuild. However, there are many safe zones to explore.

As soon as I get the chance, I’ll be back on a train to Kanazawa.

Maybe I’ll even visit my friends in the Henna Hotel...

Until next time,

Lana
